This summarizes the currently known text configuration parameter strings, their meanings, and their possible ranges and values:

Parameter Name Description Possible Values and Range
IRQ Interrupt request Normal range 2-15
IOADDR Base address of device control area in I/O space Usually 0x100-0x400, range 2-32
IOADDRLENGTH Number of bytes of addressable I/O space used by device Usually 4, 8, or 16
MEMADDR Buffer RAM address 0xA0000-0xF0000, range 4096-65536
MEMADDRLENGTH Size of device memory window 0-256k (may be greater, but not for network interface cards)
TRANSCEIVER Transceiver control; specific to 3Com Etherlink II card 0 (internal) or 1 (external)

The preceding list cannot be definitive, because vendors create new parameters as needed. Furthermore, definitions, values, and ranges can be highly platform- and hardware-specific.
