21.13 Known NIC Configuration Parameter Strings

This section lists the currently known text configuration parameter strings, their meanings, as well as their possible ranges and values.

Parameter Name Description Possible Values and Range
IRQ Interrupt request Normal range 2-15
IOADDR Base address of device control area in I/O space Usually 0x100-0x400, range 2-32
IOADDRLENGTH Number of bytes of addressable I/O space used by device Usually 4, 8, or 16
MEMADDR Buffer RAM address 0xA0000-0xF0000, range 4096-65536
MEMADDRLENGTH Size of device memory window 0-256k (maybe greater, but not for network interface cards)
TRANSCEIVER Transceiver control; specific to 3Com Etherlink II card 0 (internal) or 1 (external)
