Windows NT supports routing on both single- and multi-homed computers with, and without, the Multi-Protocol Router (MPR). MPR includes Routing Information Protocol (RIP) for TCP/IP and RIP for IPX. Routers use RIP to dynamically exchange routing information. RIP routers broadcast their routing tables every 30 seconds by default. Other RIP routers will listen for these RIP broadcasts and update their own route tables.
This section provides information about the Windows NT-based route table as used on single- and multi-homed computers with, and without, MPR. This background information will help with TCP/IP troubleshooting.
