Designing Custom Tests

You can use WCAT to create and run tests that evaluate your unique Internet Information Server configuration and Web applications. In your custom tests, you can customize client workload, server content and programs, and network configurations. For example, you can use WCAT to evaluate a new Web application during development to understand how the server responds when running the application. You can also evaluate how your Internet Information Server responds to different production environments by varying client workloads and network bandwidth.

You can create and run custom WCAT tests to evaluate the following:

· How different programs and functions affect a server configured with Windows NT Server and Internet Information Server

· How the server responds to various client workload simulations

· How the server responds when supporting client access from multiple networks

The remaining sections in this guide describe how you can create custom tests by doing any of the following:

· Using command line options with the run command

· Changing the values of variables in the configuration, script, and distribution input files

· Substituting your own HTML, ISAPI, or CGI programs and content for the prepared tests provided with WCAT

· Changing the test environment from a dedicated single network to multiple networks

· Using multiple Internet Information Servers
