PPTP Connection Is Slow

If your PPTP connection is slow, follow the procedures outlined below.

Check Your ISP Connection

You might be able to improve your performance by changing settings in your ISP connection. Follow the steps outlined in the procedure “To verify or edit your ISP connection” in the chapter “Installing, Configuring and Using PPTP with Microsoft Clients and Servers.”

Check The Connection To Other Internet Sites

To check the speed of your Internet connection, ping Internet sites such as www.microsoft.com and www.yahoo.com. If ping shows a response time of more than five seconds, you have a slow Internet connection. Contact your ISP.

Check The Connection To Your PPTP Server

If you do not have problems with your Internet connection, but the connection to your PPTP server is still slow, the PPTP server might be overloaded. Contact the administrator of the PPTP server.

Connect Directly To Network Resources

If you have a slow connection, you might want to connect directly to network resources. To do so, at the command prompt, type:

net use \\server\share

Note You can type either the IP address or the name of the server to which you are connecting. Typing the IP address may enable you to connect to the server more quickly.
