MDAC 2.5 SDK - Overview of ODBC
What's New in ODBC
The ODBC documentation released with the Microsoft® Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.5 SDK includes enhancements to the following sections.
ODBC Data Source Administrator
On computers running Microsoft Windows® 2000, the ODBC Data Source Administrator is located under the Administrative Tools icon in the Windows Control Panel. Its icon has been renamed to Data Sources (ODBC).
ODBC Drivers
The ODBC Drivers section of the MDAC 2.5 SDK documentation has been updated as follows:
- The Desktop Database Drivers section now contains reference material formerly accessible from the ODBC Data Source Administrator online help. The online help file has been redesigned to use HTML Help, and more pop-up help has been added to each driver's setup dialog box.
- The ODBC Driver for Oracle now has its own section under ODBC Drivers and also contains reference material formerly accessible from the ODBC Data Source Administrator online help. The online help file has been redesigned to use HTML Help, and more pop-up help has been added to the Oracle driver's setup dialog box.
- The Visual FoxPro ODBC Driver documentation is new to the MDAC SDK for version 2.5; however, the driver is no longer part of the Desktop Database Drivers. Therefore, if accessing a FoxPro database using ODBC, you must install the Visual FoxPro ODBC Driver and configure the data source appropriately using the ODBC Data Source Administrator.
