File-Server Solutions

In a file-server environment, a multiuser database solution that is based on Access consists of the following components:

• One or more Access database files (.mdb) residing on the network server
  
  
• A locking information file (.ldb) for each database
  
  
• A workgroup information file (.mdw) residing either on the network server or on each user's workstation
  
  
• A copy of the Access application and the Jet database engine running on the local workstation(s)
