Microsoft Office 2000/Visual Basic Programmer's Guide |
Although MSDE is not installed by default in Microsoft Office 2000 or Microsoft Access 2000, you can install MSDE from the CD-ROM by running Setupsql.exe, which is located in the SQL\x86\Setup folder.
Once you install MSDE on your computer, on Windows 95 or later, you may need to start the SQL Server Service Manager (double-click the MSSQLServer icon on the task bar and click Start/Continue). MSDE starts automatically on Windows NT Workstation 4.0 or later; you may want to automatically start MSDE on Windows 95 or later by selecting the Auto-start server when OS starts check box on the SQL Server Service Manager dialog box.
Installing MSDE also installs the Data Transformation Services Wizard, which allows you to import and export data by using OLE DB providers or ODBC drivers to transform and validate data. To run the Data Transformation Services Wizard after installing MSDE, on the Start menu, click Programs, point to MSDE, and then click Import and Export Data. You can also use the Data Transformation Services Wizard to transfer objects and data between MSDE and SQL Server 7.0. For example, if you use Access and MSDE to create a prototype of a client/server solution, you can use the Data Transformation Services Wizard to transfer the back-end objects and data from MSDE to SQL Server 7.0. For additional information about using the Data Transformation Services Wizard, see the DTS Import and Export Wizards Help file (Dtswiz70.chm), which is installed by default in your C:\Windows\Help folder.
