You can't open a Microsoft Access 2000 database by using prior versions of Microsoft Access. However, you can link and import Microsoft Access 2000 (version 9.0) tables into Microsoft Access 97 (version 8.0) databases. You can also export a version 8.0 table to a version 7.0 database, and you can cut, copy, or paste data from a version 8.0 table to a version 7.0 table.

You can enable a database created in a prior version of Microsoft Access to run in Microsoft Access 2000 but you can't add new objects to, or change the design of objects in, the database.

If your attempt to convert a database to Microsoft Access 2000 fails, you can also create a new Microsoft Access 2000 database and then import all the objects from the earlier version into your new database.

Note   If you need to share a database with users who are running a previous version of Microsoft Access, you should open the prior-version database with the Enable option rather than the Convert option. If you must share the database with users running a previous version of Microsoft Access do not convert the database to the Microsoft Access 2000 format.
