Chapter 8: Java Beans

Whereas Microsoft’s ActiveX component technology is based on a binary standard for interobject communication, Java’s Bean component technology is defined in terms of the Java virtual machine: the former technology focuses on language independence; the latter, platform independence. In many ways, ActiveX controls and Java Beans are compatible; each can be defined in terms of the other, although the two standards provide slightly different views of component communication and development.
