One of the strengths of Windows NT is the way that the built-in security features extend beyond the limits of the operating system to encompass other products and services running on it. All of the Microsoft BackOffice® products can plug into NT to get details of the files and resources that each user should have access to. This includes services such as Internet Information Server and SQL Server, as well as the MTS and MSMQ services that we're focusing on later in this chapter.
The major bonus here is that each user only has one logon to perform. Each application or service can query Windows NT to see what resources the current user can access. Notice that we're talking here about applications rather than just Web sites. While the following applies just as well to sites that simply display information and distribute files, our DNA applications will generally enjoy a much closer relationship with the operating system and the services it makes available.
