Elements are the building blocks of UML, and comprise model elements and visual elements. Model elements represent abstractions of the system being modeled, while visual elements provide textual or graphical projections that facilitate the manipulation of model elements.
Elements are grouped into packages that contain or reference model elements. A model is an abstraction of a system, represented by a hierarchy of packages.
