Fall Comdex and Internet World featured numerous new products for the interactive developer. Here are a few of the more interesting items we found for you to jazz up your applications.
Visual Active Channel Authoring
AnyWare Ltd. recently released Channel Maker 1.0, designed to give Internet content providers, intranet administrators, and Web designers a visual method for authoring Active Channel content. The Active Channel can be built-up from subchannels and items, with full support for Active Desktop items. All properties and features of the CDF tags can be
set without text editing. All links can be checked automatically before the Channel file is saved, minimizing the risk of broken links. A facility is also provided for authoring Channels if a permanent connection to the Web server is not available. This allows pages to be checked with local copies residing on the user's hard disk. Integration with the Windows® shell allows Channel files to be updated without opening Channel Maker, and command-line options provide for unattended Channel updates.

Simplify
Access to DirectX
PolyMedia SDK, recently released by Levitech, is a set of ActiveX controls that significantly simplify access to Microsoft's DirectX®. PolyMedia adds a new perspective to multimedia application development by allowing fast graphical operations together with the runtime mixing of any
kind of multimedia object. The PolyMedia SDK controls are linked to a central kernel that manages the whole system. Each control depends on this kernel, but they can also be used independently from the others. The ActiveX controls in the SDK include multiple video file controls, bitmap loading, integration of sprite animation, simultaneous playback of multiple sounds, display or mix of graphical elements, text integration, and
FLC animation. PolyMedia is intended for use by multimedia developers, especially those developing high quality dynamic multimedia games, edutainment and presentations. PolyMedia
SDK ships in two different versions: the Standard SDK, with the full set of ActiveX controls, and the Enhanced SDK, which includes an option to develop your own ActiveX controls and link them with those in the SDK.
