1. Introduction

The Distributed Component Object Model protocol (DCOM) is an application-level protocol for object-oriented remote procedure calls and is thus alsocalled "Object RPC" or ORPC. The protocol consists of a set of extensions, layered on the distributed computing environment (DCE) RPC specification [CAE RPC], with which familiarity is assumed.
