Using the ODBC Data Source Administrator

Using the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box, you can:

• Display version information for the Microsoft® SQL Server™ ODBC driver currently installed on the system.
• Add, change, and remove data sources for the SQL Server ODBC driver.

The ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box can create tabs for user, system, and file data sources.

User data sources are specific to the Microsoft® Windows NT or Microsoft Windows® 95 account that is in effect when they are created. They are not visible to any other login account. They are not always visible to applications running as a service on a computer running Windows NT.

System data sources are visible to all login accounts on a client. They are always visible to applications running as a service on a computer running Windows NT.

File data sources were added with ODBC version 3.0. File data sources are not stored in the system registry. They are stored in a file on the client.

After you choose the type of data source, the ODBC Data Source Administrator starts the Microsoft SQL Server DSN Configuration Wizard, which guides you through the process of adding an ODBC data source.
