regrebld Utility

Use the regrebld utility to back up or restore the Microsoft SQL Server registry entries if they become corrupted.

Syntax

regrebld [-Backup | -Restore ]

Arguments
-Backup
Creates five Mssql7*.rbk files in the \Mssql7\Binn directory that represent the current registry entries.
-Restore
Looks for the five Mssql7*.rbk files in the \Mssql7\Binn directory and restores them to the registry.
Remarks

If you run the regrebld utility without any parameters, it restores the registry entries, as with the -Restore option, and re-creates the SQL Server services.

SQL Server Setup runs regrebld -Backup at the end of the installation process to create an initial backup.
