Merging Partitions

Merging partitions is a powerful tool, but care must be taken to fully understand the process and how to ensure the merge operation produces your intended results.

There are restrictions on merging partitions that must be taken into account when the partitions are created to ensure they can be merged at a later time. In addition to the restriction that partitions must have the same structure, partitions can be merged only if they:

To create a partition that is a candidate for future merging, you can choose to copy the aggregation design from another of the cube’s partitions when creating the partition in the Partition wizard. This will ensure that these partitions have the same aggregation design; when they are merged, the aggregations of the source partition are combined with the aggregations in the target partition.
