Analyzing Usage Patterns
To quickly and easily produce an on-screen report of a cube’s query patterns, use the Usage Analysis wizard. The following reports are available:
- Query Run-Tme Table: a table showing the run time of queries, ordered from the longest to the shortest run time.
- Query Frequency Table: a table showing the frequency of queries, ordered from the most to the least frequent.
- Active User Table: a table showing users and the number of queries they have sent. Queries are ordered from the most to least queries sent per user.
- Query Response Graph: a bar graph showing the response time for all queries.
- Query By Hour Graph: a bar graph showing the total number of queries processed, grouped by hour.
- Query By Date Graph: a bar graph showing the total number of queries sent, grouped by date.
You can limit the reports to select queries, based on several criteria.
To start the Usage Analysis wizard
- In the OLAP Manager tree view, under a database, expand the Cubes folder.
- Right-click a cube, and then click Usage Analysis.
Note The reports’ contents are affected by the options that control query logging. The reports retrieve data from the query log, which by default records every tenth query. Therefore, by default the reports reflect only every tenth query. You can change an option to record at any interval up to 1 in 10,000. Other options are turning off query logging and clearing the log, which also affect the reports’ contents. For information about these options, see Properties Dialog Box - Query Log Tab.
