Dimension Wizard - Select Dimension Table

In this step of the wizard, you select the table or tables from which you want to create your dimension. If you select multiple tables, all the tables must come from the same data source.

Under Available tables, the wizard displays a list of the tables in your data source that are available for creating dimensions. Click the “+” to expand the data source and view the tables contained within.

If you do not see the table you want to use for the dimension, choose another data source. If you do not find the table you want under any of the data sources shown, click New Data Source to establish another connection.

To view the data in a table

  1. Under Available tables, click the table whose data you want to view.
  2. Click Browse Data.

To select a dimension table for a star schema (single table)

  1. Under Available tables, select the table you want to add. The columns of that table appear under Details.
  2. Click Next.

To select dimension tables for a snowflake schema (multiple tables)

  1. Under Available tables, click the tables you want to use. Use the buttons provided to move tables to the list under Selected tables.

    To add a table to the list, click the table, and then click “>“ (Add).

    To remove a table from the list, click the table, and then click “<“ (Remove).

    To add all displayed tables to your list, click “>>“ (Add All).

    To remove all tables from your list, click “<<“ (Remove All).

  2. Click Next.

Note All the tables you select must come from the same data source. If you add a table from a data source that is different from that of the other selected tables, the list of tables under Selected tables will be cleared.
