Dimension Wizard - Edit Joins

This step appears only if you clicked Multiple dimension tables (snowflake schema) in the introductory step of the wizard, indicating that you would use more than one table for your dimension.

In this step of the wizard, you can create, edit, and remove joins between your dimension tables. The wizard displays the tables you have selected for your dimension. If two or more tables share a column, the wizard shows that it has automatically created a join by showing a line connecting the matching columns.

Note The Dimension wizard is designed for use with simple schemas. If you are designing a complex snowflake schema, it is recommended that you use the Dimension editor.

If you need to edit joins but do not have a mouse or pointing device, cancel the Dimension wizard and create the dimension with the Dimension editor, which provides the Join command on the Insert menu and the Remove Join command on the Edit menu.

To create a join

  1. Click the column that you want to base the join on.
  2. Drag that column to the column in another table with which you want to join the first column. You can join only columns of compatible data types.

To remove a join

  1. Right-click the line that represents the join.
  2. Click Remove.
