DTS Information Model

DTS uses the Data Transformation Services Information Model (an extension of the Database Transformation Information (TFM) Model), for persisting data transformation metadata information in Microsoft® Repository.

The DTS Information Model describes:

• Data transformations and their groupings into larger execution units
• The types of data accessed.

Specifically, the DTS Information Model allows:

• Storage of data transformation metadata information in one, well-defined location. Because many data transformations are generic, storing this information in Repository allows existing transformations to be reused when rebuilding a data warehouse or data mart.
• The sharing of data transformation information across multiple tools. This allows the use of tools from different vendors during the building and maintenance of data warehouses.
