DTS Metadata

If you save package information to Microsoft® Repository, you can save metadata about the databases referenced in the package, such as:

You can import metadata to Repository through SQL Server Enterprise Manager, or by using the DTS Designer scanning options (also available in the DTS Import and DTS Export wizards). When you import metadata using SQL Server Enterprise Manager, you read the metadata from only one database (catalog). When using DTS Designer (or the DTS Import and DTS Export wizards ) you can read the metadata from all referenced databases in a package by selecting Scan all referenced catalogs in the Scanning Options dialog box.

Note For the import of metadata to work, the data provider specified must support OLE DB schema rowsets.

You can view metadata information saved to Repository through the viewer supplied with Microsoft SQL Server™ (or through your own Repository browser), which provides detailed information about the catalog metadata, the packages referencing the metadata objects, and source and destination column information for transformations within the packages.
