Saving a Package to Repository

The DTS package is saved as a Microsoft® Repository entry. Use this option if you plan to track package version, metadata, and data lineage information with Repository.

You can save versions of a package to Repository. If a package has versions, you can display its version history in SQL Server Enterprise Manager and open the version you want.

You can also view version information for packages saved to Repository with Repository viewing tools supplied with SQL Server Enterprise Manager.

Repository provides a common store for information about objects and relationships between objects. For DTS packages, Repository uses a special open information model, the DTS information model, to enable the storage of DTS package metadataand data lineage information.

In DTS Designer, packages are saved to Repository. For packages outside of DTS Designer, such as those written in Microsoft Visual Basic®, you can specify which Repository to save the package data (such as Microsoft Access).
