Using the Import and Export Wizards

The DTS Import or DTS Export wizards are started from either SQL Server Enterprise Manager or the command prompt, and can be used to import data to, or export data from, a Microsoft® SQL Server™ database.

The general steps for using the DTS Import or DTS Export wizards to create a DTS package include specifying:

  1. The source, or destination, of the data.
  2. Whether to copy an entire table, or the results of a query.
  3. The destination table(s) for the copied data.
  4. How to transform the data, if necessary, during the copy.
  5. Whether to execute the package immediately, or at a later time. The package must be saved to execute it at a later time.
  6. Whether to save the package so that it can be reused.
