The following diagram illustrates the PivotTable® Service architecture.
Your applications can use PivotTable Service to communicate with the OLAP server or to manage local cube files. You can use OLE DB interfaces for C++ or the Microsoft® ActiveX® Data Objects (ADO) and ActiveX Data Objects (Multidimensional) (ADO MD) with any Component Object Model (COM) automation language, including Microsoft Visual Basic®.
PivotTable Service provides data definition language (DDL) and other statements that supplement the multidimensional expressions (MDX) described in the OLE DB 2.0 and later documentation. The statements can define and populate local cube files.
When not connected to an OLAP server, PivotTable Service can connect to an OLE DB data source or to a local cube file.
