Microsoft® SQL Server™ OLAP Services is both a multidimensional data provider (MDP) and a tabular data provider (TDP). Therefore, executing a query returns either a multidimensional dataset or a flattened rowset, depending on the query language dialect used. OLAP Services recognizes both the SQL dialect and the multidimensional expressions (MDX)) dialect. For more information, see the OLE DB documentation.
In addition to querying, you can use certain data definition language (DDL) statements to create local cubes, calculated members, user-defined sets, and cache. For more information, see PivotTable Service.
