Disabling Publishing and Distribution

You can disable a Distributor using the Disable Publishing and Distribution Wizard. The effects of disabling a Distributor are:

• All distribution databases on that server are deleted.
• All Publishers that use the Distributor are disabled and all publications on those servers are deleted.
• All subscriptions to the publications are deleted (although data in the destination database may not be deleted).

If you disable a Distributor using the Disable Publishing and Distribution Wizard, the wizard automatically disables all Publishers that use the Distributor. If the wizard can establish a connection to a Publisher, it deletes all publications before disabling the Publisher. If no connection can be made, the wizard proceeds to disable the Publisher; however, the published data still exists on the former Publisher and must be removed manually.
