To copy the MSSQLServer Registry server key to a new key

1. Start the Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe is usually found in the SYSTEM32 directory under the Microsoft® Windows NT® root directory).
2. Switch to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE window; then double-click SOFTWARE.
3. Double-click Microsoft.
4. Select MSSQLServer.
5. On the Edit menu, click Add Key.
6. In the Key name box, enter a name for the new key, and then click OK.
7. Select MSSQLServer, (under MSSQLServer) and on the Registry menu, click Save Key.
8. In the File Name dialog box, enter a file name for the saved key and click Save.
9. Click the new key, and on the Registry menu, click Restore.
10. In the File Name dialog box, enter the file name for the saved key and click Open.
