How to register a server (Enterprise Manager)

To register a server

  1. Right-click a server or a server group; then click New SQL Server Registration.

Note If you selected From now on I want to perform this task without using a wizard the last time you used the Register Server Wizard, SQL Server Enterprise Manager displays the Registered SQL Server Properties dialog box. Otherwise, the Register Server Wizard is started.

  2. In the Registered SQL Server Properties dialog box, enter the server name in the Server box.
  3. Select the security type for the connection between SQL Server Enterprise Manager (as a client) and the server running Microsoft® SQL Server™ that is being registered:

    ·Use Windows NT authentication

    ·Use SQL Server authentication

With this type of connection, you must provide a login name and password. Select Always prompt for login name and password to always prompt user for login name and password, rather than storing your login id and password in your registry.

  4. In the Server group list, click a server group.

Note If the group you need does not exist yet, create it by clicking build (...), and completing the Server Groups dialog box.

  5. To turn service polling on or off, select or clear Display SQL Server state in console.
  6. Select or clear Show system databases and system objects.
  7. To start SQL Server automatically, select Automatically start SQL Server when connecting.
  8. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 to register each server with SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
