How to pause and resume SQL Server (Service Manager)

To pause and resume SQL Server

  1. If the service is a remote service, specify the name of the remote server in the Server box.

This connects you to the remote server and completes the Services box with the names of Microsoft® SQL Server™ services registered on the remote computer.

  2. In the Services box, click MSSQLServer.

The current state of the service is indicated by the light on the traffic signal and by the message in the status bar.

  3. Click Pause.

Note SQL Server can be paused only if it was started as a Microsoft Windows NT® or Windows 98 service.

  4. Click Start/Continue to start the server.
