OLAP Services: Web Browser Sample

Microsoft Corporation

September 1999

The Microsoft® SQL Server™ Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) Services Web Browser sample application uses Active Server Pages (ASP) to allow users to browse a cube using Microsoft Internet Explorer. The client computer does not need to have OLAP Services client components installed. All user interaction and data display are done using HTML, DHTML, and JavaScript™.

Copy the files included in the self-extracting .exe into a Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) virtual directory. Start Internet Explorer, and point it to test.htm. This page allows you to input server, database, and cube name as well as what you initially want to see on rows and columns. The cube that you want to browse should have user IUSR_<computer name> in one of its roles.

Files contained in the Web Browser sample:

All OLAP Services sample files are contained in a single, self-extracting executable zip file.

Expand the files into an IIS directory.

Once this process is complete, review the readme.txt file that is included in the sample. This file provides instructions and prerequisites that you will need for use with the sample.
