Use this dialog box to set Web application permissions for a machine or group of machines. These settings allow you to control access to your Web application from specific machines based on their Internet protocol (IP) address.
This dialog box is available from the Computers tab of the Permissions dialog box if Use unique permissions for this Web is selected on the Settings tab of the Permissions dialog box.
Note This dialog box is not available if your master Web server is on an operating system using the File Allocation Table file system (FAT), such as Microsoft® Windows® 95, instead of Windows NT® File System (NTFS).
Type the number specifying the IP address for the machine. To grant permissions for a group of machines, use an asterisk (*) in place of specific numbers.
For example, to grant permissions for a computer with an IP address of 127.0.0.1, enter 127, 0, 0, and 1 in the 4 boxes. To grant permissions for a group of computers with an IP address that starts with 127, enter 127, *, *, and *.
To find out the address of someone connecting to your Web application, you can use the Request object in an ASP page. To find out your own IP address, open an MS-DOS® prompt and run IPCONFIG on Windows NT or WINIPCFG on Windows 95.
Note If the user of the computer has more restrictive permissions than the computer, the user’s permissions are used instead of the computer’s permissions.
