The Project Explorer window displays the items that belong to the open project(s). In Visual J++, projects are directory-based. Each file and folder in the project corresponds to a file and folder on the hard disk. Adding a file to the project adds the file to the project directory structure on the hard disk, and vice versa. Note, however, that you can remove a file from the project without removing it from the hard disk.

By default, Project Explorer is automatically opened when you create or open a project. To manually open Project Explorer, click Project Explorer on the View menu.
