As shown in the figure below, the initial model for a transactional Internet site consists of a single server running IIS 5.0, usually with FTP service enabled (to allow divisions to add their own information as necessary), as well as some e-mail functionality for customer feedback. In addition, the Web server has some connectivity (such as ODBC or OLE DB) that allows it to offer dynamic content and to store customer information. Typically, the Web server is connected to a separate database server.
