LMHOSTS File |
By default, Windows 2000 is enabled to use the LMHOSTS file for name resolution when TCP/IP is installed on the computer. You can disable the use of LMHOSTS for name resolution by clearing the Enable LMHOSTS Lookup check box on the WINS tab of the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box. However, disabling the use of LMHOSTS for name resolution is not recommended, because the LMHOSTS file provides a backup name service for WINS servers that are offline or unavailable.
To use an LMHOSTS file from a remote computer or from a different directory on the local computer, click Import LMHOSTS on the WINS tab of the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box.
