Using Multiple ELANs for Security

If you implement LAN emulation for several groups of clients with differing security needs, the preconfigured default ELAN might not be enough. In this case, you should consider establishing multiple ELANs. For instance, you can divide a corporate network into multiple ELANs for different departments, with Finance and Human Resources on a high-security ELAN, a lower-security ELAN for Production, Marketing, Sales, Shipping, and Facilities, and a second lower-security ELAN for an overseas branch office.

This use of multiple ELANs requires additional work to set up, but it enhances security because anyone who does not know the specified names of these ELANs cannot join them as a client.
