Windows ATM services are configured with LANE installed, and are configured to use the default ELAN. As a result, the LANE client automatically attempts to join this ELAN unless another is configured. The default ELAN is referred to as <unspecified ELAN name>, and this name must always appear in the ATM LAN Client Properties dialog box when configuring a LAN Emulation client.
When purchasing an ATM switch, check the product specifications to make sure it is preconfigured with LANE services enabled and with a default ELAN. This is the ELAN to which a client is assigned if no ELAN is specified when contacting LANE services.
If the switch is not preconfigured, check the manufacturer's specifications for how to add clients to an ELAN.
