A Palm-size PC has four different categories of navigation controls: action, exit, arrow, and program. These controls allow a user to launch applications, navigate lists, activate records, and exit fields and dialog boxes. The following table shows the navigation controls and their equivalent keys.
Navigation control |
Similar key on a keyboard |
Action | ENTER |
Exit | ESC |
Arrow | UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW |
Program | No keyboard equivalent |
While every Palm-size PC implements these controls, the OEM decides on the number of controls and their placement. For example, it is possible to combine the arrow and action controls into a wheel, similar in form to the wheel on the Microsoft® Intellimouse. Pushing the wheel in sends the VK_ENTER message, while spinning the wheel sends the VK_UP or VK_DOWN messages. The OEM also determines the original purpose of each program control. When pressed, a program control launches a predetermined application. Every Palm-size PC must have at least one program control mapped to launch the Voice Recorder application.
