Windows Media™ Encoder, part of Microsoft® Windows Media™ Tools, is primarily used for encoding media content (such as live output from a microphone or a video camera, or stored media files) into a Windows Media™ Format stream or file. This stream or file can be delivered to clients through a server running Microsoft® Windows Media™ Services. With the state-of-the-art compression technologies in Windows Media Encoder, you can convert and compress audio content, video content, and script commands into Windows Media™ Format content.
Windows Media Encoder can be controlled programmatically by using Automation to provide flexible tools for encoding media content into Windows Media Format streams or files. A Windows Media Format stream or file contains audio, video, or script data, uncompressed or compressed using one of a specified range of codecs, and using Advanced Streaming Format (ASF) as a file container.
The Microsoft® Windows Media™ Encoder Software Development Kit (SDK) is divided into the following sections.
Section | Description |
Windows Media Encoder Automation Programming Guide | Describes how to use Windows Media Encoder Automation. |
Windows Media Encoder Automation Programming Reference | Provides detailed information on the methods, properties, and events exposed through the Automation interface. |
