This section contains samples that demonstrate how to place the Microsoft® Windows Media™ Player control in a Web page. You can view the source HTML of these samples to see how the Media Player control is positioned on the page and controlled by scripts. They can also be used as starting points for the design of your own multimedia web pages.

The samples are divided into the following categories.

Faceplate Samples

The following samples implement basic and more advanced Windows Media Player user interfaces with HTML application faceplates.

Sample Description
Simple Faceplate This short sample embeds the Windows Media Player control object in an HTML file.
Basic Controls This sample shows how to create graphical buttons for a custom Windows Media Player interface. It also shows how to link dynamic HTML (DHTML) events to scripts that control the Windows Media Player.

DVD Samples

The following samples demonstrate DVD-Video playback through the Windows Media Player control.

Important To view these samples, your system must be capable of DVD-Video playback and have the Microsoft® DirectShow® drivers installed.

Sample Description

This sample application embeds the Windows Media Player control in a Web page, and plays an ASF clip synchronized with text in a SAMI (.smi) file.

Plug-in Samples

The Windows Media Player plug-in samples show how to embed the Windows Media Player control in a Web page with scripting that works correctly in browsers that support embedding, such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

The following table describes the plug-in samples.

SampleDescription
Sample1This simple HTML application shows how to embed the plug-in in an HTML page so that the scripted page works in browsers that support embedding.
Sample2This HTML application shows how to use properties and methods exposed by the plug-in.
Sample3This sample application shows how handle events with basic scripting.
Sample4This sample shows more advanced scripting for event handling using external Microsoft® JScript® proxy files (.js).
Sample5This sample shows how to use JScript proxy files and Microsoft® Visual Basic® Scripting Edition (VBScript) on the same page.
