Using the Batch Encode Utility Sample
The following procedures show how to install and run the Batch Encode Utility, and how to set up the utility for running a batch.
To install the utility
All the files needed for this sample are copied to your computer when the Windows Media Technologies SDK is installed. To use the Batch Encode Utility, run Setup.exe to install it on your computer. The default installation path to the Batch Encode Utility Sample setup program is C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\SDK\Samples\Batch\Setup.exe.
To create or change .asd files
- In the Start menu, point to Windows Media, and then click Windows Media Encoder. Windows Media Encoder opens with the previously saved .asd file. If there is no previously saved .asd file, Windows Media Encoder opens with the Configuration wizard Welcome screen.
- To create a new .asd file, on the File menu, click New. To open an existing .asd file, click Open.
- If you are creating a new .asd file, select the Custom settings option, and use the Configuration wizard. If you are changing an existing file, open the Properties page.
- Select AVI/WAV/MP3 file as the input source, and select To a local ASF file as the output option. For more information on using the Configuration wizard, see Windows Media Encoder Help.
- To save the settings as an .asd file, in the Windows Media Encoder File menu, click Save.
To set up and run a batch process
- In the Start menu, point to Windows Media, and then click Batch Encode Utility.
- In the Content Source Directory box, enter the path to the source files.
- Add the files from the Content Source Directory to the Files list. To add video files, type *.avi in the File Attributes box, and then click Add Files; to add audio files, type *.wav or *.mp3, and then click Add Files. You can add files from other locations by entering different paths in the Content Source Directory box, and clicking Add Files. To remove one or more files from the Files list, select the files, and then click Remove Files.
- In the ASD Source Directory box, enter the path to the .asd files.
- To add .asd files from the ASD Source Directory to the Files list, click Add Files. You can add files from other locations by entering different paths in the ASD Source Directory box, and clicking Add Files. To remove one or more files from the Files list, select the files, and then click Remove Files.
- To set the directory into which encoded files are created, enter the path in the ASF Destination directory box, or click Browse.
- To start the batch, click Start.
To create log files
- To enable saving batch log information to files, on the Log menu, click Log to file.
- Enter the path to the directory containing the log files in the Logging to box, or click Browse.
- To set the utility to automatically stop the batch process if an error occurs, select the Stop batch on error check box.
Errors that occur during a batch are listed in the Batch Status box, and are added to the log file. Errors continue to be listed even with Log to file disabled.
