Using the Task Wizard Sample

To use the Task Wizard Sample, run Setup.exe to install it on your computer, and then open the Task Wizard Sample from the Start menu. The wizard guides you through the process of choosing a task, entering ASX and Windows Media Player settings, and then creating the appropriate output files. The default installation path to the Task Wizard setup program is C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\SDK\Samples\TaskWizard\Setup.exe.

To set up the Task Wizard Sample

  1. Click Start, click Run, and then enter the path or click Browse to locate Setup.exe in the \SDK\Samples\TaskWizard directory.

  2. Open Setup.exe, and follow the steps in the Setup wizard.

Setup creates a directory named Task Wizard in the Windows Media Components directory that holds the Task Wizard Sample program files. An Output directory is also created in the Task Wizard directory to hold files generated by the Task Wizard Sample.

  1. To open the application, click Start, point to Programs, then point to Windows Media, and click Task Wizard.

To choose a task

  1. From the Choose a Task list, click to select one of the task templates. A description of each template appears in the area below the list.

  2. Select one or both Output Options to add comments to the .asx and .htm files that are generated by Task Wizard. The standalone player task templates do not include .htm files.

To enter ASX settings

  1. Enter a file name for your new .asx file. The name is usually the same as that of your .asf file.

  2. Enter the name of the existing .asf file to which this .asx file will link Windows Media Player, or use Browse to locate it on your computer. In the case of the playlist templates, enter one or more file names using the plus (+) button. To delete a file from the list, select it, and click the X button.

  3. Enter other text, URL and file name elements. The Windows Media Player graphic on the right displays certain text items as you type. For a full description of these elements, see ASX Elements Reference in the Windows Media Player Control SDK.

  4. If you want this .asx file to play more than once, enter a number greater than one (1) in the Repeat box by clicking the up or down arrow.

  5. If the task template you have chosen includes an .htm file, click Next. Otherwise, click Finish, and the .asx file is created and placed in the Output subdirectory of the Task Wizard directory.

To enter Windows Media Player settings

  1. In the New HTML Name box, enter a name for the .htm file you want Task Wizard to create.

  2. The ASX File Name box reflects what you entered on the ASX settings screen, unless you have chosen the Pre-existing ASX embedded in a Web page task template.

  3. Select one or more Windows Media Player properties. For information on Windows Media Player properties, see Scripting Reference in the Windows Media Player Control SDK.

  4. Check one or more browser types to add or omit specific code for embedding Windows Media Player in Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.

  5. Click Finish. The .asx and .htm files are created and placed in the Output subdirectory of the Task Wizard directory.
