MORE INFORMATION

The Online Help, readme.wri file, and product manuals are supplied with Visual SourceSafe and contain a wealth of information that could help to answer questions you may have or resolve problems you may encounter. Additional sources of information or support are listed below.

Readme.wri

The README.WRI is located in the root of the SourceSafe directory. This file contains helpful information about installation, documentation notes, new features, and additional tips. If you do not have this README.WRI, it is available in sections from the Microsoft Knowledge base. These articles can be found by entering "README.WRI" as the words to search for on the Microsoft SourceSafe Knowledge Base Web page.

Microsoft Knowledge Base

The Microsoft Knowledge Base can be accessed from www.microsoft.com/kb. This is a database of informative technical articles written by Microsoft Support Engineers addressing product support issues.

Microsoft Press and Other Third Party Books

Books are generally a good source of technical and "how to" information. Contact Microsoft Press at www.microsoft.com/mspress or call (800) MS-PRESS (677-7377) for a complete listing of available books. Currently, there are no books from Microsoft Press that deal exclusively with SourceSafe, but you may find Visual C++ or Visual Basic books helpful if you are dealing with integration issues. If you are using SourceSafe integration under Visual Basic, there are several books that may be helpful. Two books are:

"Database Developer's Guide with Visual Basic 4" by Roger Jennings Copyright 1996, Sams Publishing ISBN: 0-672-30652-2 Chapter 24 is Managing Large Projects with Visual SourceSafe 4.0, pp.815-843

"Visual Basic 4 Enterprise Development" by Craig Goren, James Schmelzer and Jeffrey Smith Copyright 1996, Que Publishing ISBN: 0-7897-0099-9 Chapter 19 is Version Control and Team Development, pp. 643-726

The books included here have been authored by writers independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding the information contained in these books.
