When you open a compiled help (.chm) file or start the HTML Help ActiveX® control in an HTML file, the control looks to see if HTML Help Workshop is set up. If HTML Help Workshop is present, the following additional functionality is provided for help authors:
- Start HTML Help Workshop, click the View menu, and then click HTML Help Messages. All commands sent to and from the original program and HTML Help appear in HTML Help Workshop.
- Open a compiled help file, and then click the application icon. If HTML Help Workshop is installed, the standard menu is extended with additional help authoring commands such as Jump to URL and View Entry, which allow you to see the name of a source file or how a table of contents or index entry was coded. These commands appear only if you have HTML Help Workshop set up.
The Help authoring commands
