The Microsoft Homer Web Stress Tool is designed to realistically simulate multiple browsers requesting pages from a Web site. You can use this tool to gather performance and stability information about your Web application. This tool simulates a large number of requests with a relatively small number of client machines. The goal is to create an environment that is as close to production as possible so that you can find and eliminate problems in the Web application prior to deployment.
The Homer setup.exe file is installed in the Source folder created by the installation package (default path: C:\Inetpub\IISSamples\Utilities\Homer\Source\Setup.exe). To install, double-click on the setup.exe file icon from Windows Explorer (or navigate to the file from the Run dialog box accessible from the Start menu). Answer the questions the setup program asks. You should not have to reboot to start using Homer.
It is not advisable to install Homer on the Web server you wish to test. Doing so may affect the performance of the server and lead to less accurate test results. Instead, install Homer on one or more other computers and point them at the server you wish to test.
Note This tool is not officially supported by Microsoft®.
The Homer team maintains its own set of Knowledge-base articles that can be accessed from http://homer.manga.net/. Questions can be forwarded to the Homer support alias, homer@microsoft.com.
