Add an Entity to a Relationship
Once you’ve defined entities for your Microsoft English Query application, you can use them in the creation of relationships. For example, if you have a join for which you are creating a corresponding relationship, you’ll need to identify the entities that represent the tables and fields involved in the join.
- On the English Query Semantic Objects tab, click Relationships and then double-click an existing relationship. Or, to create a new relationship, on the Insert menu, click Relationship.
- On the Entities tab, click Add Entity.
- In the Select Entities dialog box, select an entity that will be involved in the relationship.
- Double-click the entity from the list on the Entities tab.
- If relevant, select either or both: Field tells "how many" (or "how much") of this entity participates in the relationship check boxes, and select the corresponding tables and fields. This enables the relationship to be described as How much cheese is shipped to California or How many people migrated to New York? In other words, if the common phrasing includes units of measure (pounds, miles, boxes, and so on), use how much. If there are no associated units, use how many.
- Click Apply.
If the entity is represented by a database object (such as a table), click for more information about the join options.
