Search for files by using file properties

  1. On the File menu, click Open .

  2. Click Tools, and then click Find.

  3. In the Look in box, click the drive or folder you want to search.

    To search more than one drive at a time, type each drive name separated by a semicolon in the Look in box. For example, type C:\;D:\.

  4. To search all subfolders of the selected folders and to display the folders that contain the files that are found, select the Search subfolders check box.

  5. Under Define more criteria, specify search criteria by selecting the options you want in the Property, Condition, and Value boxes, and then click Add to List.

    Note   If you are searching for an Office file other than a Microsoft Access database or Microsoft Access Project, you can also search for a phrase within the file, such as "apple pie". In the Property box, select Text or property, and in the Value box, enter the phrase in double ("") quotation marks. How to use conditions and values in a search.

  6. To create additional search criteria, click And or Or, and then repeat step 5.

  7. Select any other options you want.

    For Help on an option, click the question mark and then click the option.

  8. To save the search criteria so you can use them later, click Save Search, type a name in the Name for this Search box, and then click OK.

    You can use long, descriptive search names of up to 80 characters and can include spaces.

  9. To begin the search, click Find Now.
