A URLmoniker is a persistent intelligent name that represents and manages a Uniform Resource Locator (URL), which is a reference to a specific document or file on the Internet. Unlike other system provided monikers which are strictly synchronous, a URL moniker can also be asynchronous to reduce the impact of high latency experienced on the Internet. The URL moniker triggers a bind operation and sets up the notifications, objects, downloader, and other involved components.
A Universal Resource Locator (URL) security zone is a group of name spaces that are assigned an equal level of trust or permission. URL actions, URL policies, and URL zones handle security for a local computer. A URL action is an action that a user's browser can take that may pose a security risk to the local computer (e.g., running a Java applet or an ActiveX control). The permission or trust level for a particular URL action is set by the URL policy. A group of URL name spaces that are assigned an equal permission level make up a URL security zone. Unlike previous versions of Internet Explorer that utilized the same security policy for all URL name spaces, Internet Explorer 4.0 or later has URL security zones that allow the user to customize the default URL security zones by changing the URL policy settings for each URL action.
