package
A set of components that perform related application functions. All components in a package run in the same Microsoft® Transaction Server (MTS) process. A package is a trust boundary that defines when security credentials are verified, and is a deployment unit for a set of components. You can create packages with the MTS Explorer. A package can be either a library package or a server package.
package identity
A property of a Microsoft Transaction Server package that specifies the user accounts allowed to access the package. It can be a specific user account or a group of users within a Microsoft Windows NT® domain.
Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)
A new networking technology that supports multiprotocol virtual private networks, enabling remote users to access corporate networks securely across the Internet by dialing into an Internet Service Provider or by connecting directly to the Internet.

An alternate term for user services.
primary data file
The primary data file is the starting point of the database and points to the rest of the files in the database. Every SQL Server database has one primary data file.
primary key
One or more fields whose value or values uniquely identify each record in a table. In a relationship, a primary key is used to refer to specific records in one table from another table.
process instance
(Microsoft Exchange Server Routing) The data for an individual routing process is stored in a process instance. This data includes the process map, a tracking table, a log, and the original posted message. All this data — in other words, the process instance itself — is stored on a hidden message in the folder being monitored. A process instance models a particular route and stores all the information for that route. For example, dropping a spreadsheet into a folder will cause a process instance to be created and the spreadsheet to be embedded in it.
process instance message (PIM)
(Microsoft Exchange Server Routing) A process instance message stores process instance information and, usually, an attachment that holds the data of the message.
process map
(Microsoft Exchange Server Routing) A process map is a definition for either a sequential or a parallel route among Microsoft Exchange Server folders.
processing instruction (PI)
XML structural construct. Instructions that are passed through to the application. The target is specified as part of the PI. The syntax for a PI is <?pi-name content?>.
property
A named attribute of an object. Properties define object characteristics such as size, color, and screen location, or the state of the object, such as enabled or disabled. A property is a data member of an exposed object.
